If you’re looking for a vacation that offers both urban and rural flavor, Illinois is one of the greatest options.
You’ll really feel the rural environment in the outskirts of the metro area.
And when you crave the hustle and bustle of the city, you can get it in Chicago!
Tagged as the fifth most populous state, Illinois’ population is more or less concentrated in the Chicago area.
Places To Explore
There are quite a few educational attractions to explore!
For instance, head to the Lincoln Home and discover the place where the Lincolns lived in their earliest years of marriage.
The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum also hosts some really cool historical artifacts. There are even contemporary storytelling technologies in the museum to entertain and educate the whole family.
If you are interested in Abraham Lincoln and his era, the library has an extensive collection and information. In fact, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum boasts a collection that is at least 50% more than other presidential libraries.
Now, if art is your interest, don’t miss going to the Art Institute of Chicago. The museum generally offers fine arts collections both in the Impressionist and the post-Impressionist era, so you can expect a very diverse set of collections. You’ll really enjoy the modern and contemporary art collections, and you’ll even get to witness the stunning Asian art that is housed there as well.
For the kiddos, I highly recommend the DuPage Children’s Museum. There are tons of creativity and camping programs to explore there.
How about checking out the Rock Springs Conservation Area and Nature Center? Located in Macon County, you’ll love the view of the Sangamon River and Rock Springs. You can even watch birds or live water animals like large mouth bass, yellow bellied catfish, eels, tree frogs and many more.
You can also rent a tent and camp within the premises to experience the place for a night or two. Fishing and cross-country skiing are available as well.
For easy exploration, go biking with the whole family at the Fair view-Kiwanis-Rock Springs Bike way.
The Chicago Botanic Garden is a great place to visit in the Chicago area. You’ll be surrounded by breathtaking flowers, and you’ll even chance upon some rare species.
The Shedd Aquarium is another perfect place for the whole family to explore various water animal collections. You’ll be amazed with all their colors and appearances!
