Prior to the American Revolution, the Grand Strand was not much of a real estate treasure. However, a few families were granted land here. In fact, even after the revolution, the place remained practically desolate.
What was pivotal in the development of the beach area was the completion of the railway system which was initially intended to transport logs into the inland towns.
