A little history

The Waccamaw Tribe used to inhabit the area before the Europeans came. The Europeans came in the 18th century in an effort to expand the plantations towards the sea area. Prior to the American Revolution, the Grand Strand was not much of a real estate treasure. However, a few families were granted land here. In fact, even after the revolution, the place remained practically desolate.

What was pivotal in the development of the beach area was the completion of the railway system which was initially intended to transport logs into the inland towns. By the 20th century, the area began to grow until it was incorporated in 1957. Myrtle Beach was named after the shrub that was abundantly growing in the area.
